SoundWave is the first and only co-ed a cappella ensemble at San Diego State University. This ensemble was founded with the purposes of expressing individual talent, encouraging creativity, fostering teamwork, embracing diversity, and dedicating to the performing arts. We perform frequently around the SDSU campus, in the greater San Diego area, and compete annually in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Yes, the competition from Pitch Perfect.

Recently, at the 2025 ICCA Quarterfinals, SoundWave secured a 3rd place win. SoundWave is also a three-time ICCA Semifinalist, advancing in 2020, 2021, and 2022. In 2022, the group took 3rd place at Semifinals.

You can find SoundWave rehearsing twice a week in the SDSU music building, or wherever we can find a space to sing! While we only have a few music majors in our ensemble, all of our members go above and beyond to be able to perform with passion and to do it all on top of their academic load. We at SoundWave prioritize not only excellence in music, but creating a fun and welcoming family environment for all of our members. SoundWave’s goal is to splash the audience with a wave of sound consisting of a musical repertoire of many different genres, styles, and some funky music for our theory nerds out there. We cannot wait to show you what we have in store for this year!
